1) Who is the target audience for Doctor Who? Has it changed since 1963?

The target audience are white / British middle class aged 12 to 65 years old.

2) What audience psychographic groups might particularly enjoy Doctor Who?

Going to other worlds or space . New technology and science. 

3) What audience pleasures are offered by An Unearthly Child? Apply Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory to the episode. Make sure you provide specific examples from the episode to support your ideas.


Personal Identity: High school settings / pop music 

Personal Relationships: cliffhanger during the end of the episode / terrified and worried for Barbara and Ian

When the older new generation look back at this and think about their lives and how different it was back then.

Whw the tardis was going to a new world / space when arriving to a new planet.

BBC1 and ITV were the only channels in 1963.

2) Why is Doctor Who such an important franchise for the BBC? 

Doctor who had a really huge fan base that would help them to rely on them to get money.

3) How does Doctor Who meet the BBC's mission statement to 'inform, educate and entertain'?

Doctor who shows and educates its new audience with science and technology. It also educates them in history from the past and how much impact it has caused.

4) How is the BBC funded?

The TV licence which is held in all the British households.

5) Who regulates the BBC and is the watershed?

The rule of the channel on air after 9pm so they cannot watch any explicit things. However this rule has chnaged.
